So both parties are crooked. If I didn't have a view of NYC and a new Porsche, I might have my doubts that this is America.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush denied on Thursday the government was "trolling through" Americans' personal lives, despite a report that a domestic spy agency was collecting phone records of tens of millions of citizens.
Commentary:
Hmmm, so they are collecting info on every call made, but they assure us the data will never be cross-referenced with identities and used for anything but fighting terrorism. Jesus, did I fall asleep and wake up in fucking communist Russia overnight? Have these cock-suckers ever even read the constitution?
The function of this data will shift over time and there lies the danger. It will be deemed an awfully convenient way to get information on people without the inconvenience of having a Judge involved in signing a warrant. Then there goes that check and balance and we're living life like our president is Putin and we're in Russia…. an ex-KGB officer as president? sure, that makes sense, no danger of becoming a police state I'm sure…
Here's an example of function shift from Wikipedia:
In the United States, a Social Security number (or SSN) is a number issued to citizens, permanent residents, and temporary (working) residents under section 205(c)(2) of the Social Security Act, codified as . The number is issued to an individual by the Social Security Administration, an agency of the federal government. Ostensibly, its primary purpose is tracking working individuals for taxation purposes and to track Social Security benefits. However, in recent years, the SSN has become a de facto national identification number, even though it is not supposed to be used as a form of identification.
